On this page
The median sales development posting names one software tool, and 41% name none at all. Across 4,823 SDR and BDR postings collected between January and July 2026, Salesforce appears in 40%, HubSpot in 19%, and Outreach in 14%. Sales development is the highest-volume role in go-to-market hiring and one of the least tool-specific: companies describe the outcome, not the stack.
The most-named SDR and BDR tools
| Tool | Postings | Share of SDR/BDR postings |
|---|---|---|
| Salesforce | 1,936 | 40% |
| HubSpot | 929 | 19% |
| Outreach | 667 | 14% |
| LinkedIn Sales Navigator | 664 | 14% |
| ZoomInfo | 486 | 10% |
| Salesloft | 384 | 8% |
| Apollo.io | 345 | 7% |
| Excel | 238 | 5% |
| Gong | 177 | 4% |
| Clay | 122 | 3% |
| Slack | 105 | 2% |
| Claude | 100 | 2% |
The stack splits into three jobs
Read the list by category and the day emerges: a CRM to log in (Salesforce, HubSpot), a sequencer to send from (Outreach, Salesloft), and a data source to build lists from (Sales Navigator, ZoomInfo, Apollo.io, Clay). Only 23% of postings name three or more tools, which means most companies expect the rep to live in one or two systems, not orchestrate a stack.
Clay appears in 122 postings and Apollo.io in 345 — small absolute numbers, but they are the two names that barely existed in this category a few years ago. They are the leading edge of the list-building layer moving from manual research to automated enrichment.
What sales development pays
The median advertised SDR/BDR salary is $70,000 (yearly-equivalent midpoint, n=1,217 postings with usable salary data), with a 25th-to-75th percentile range of $58,500 to $86,320. That is the lowest median of any role class in the study, which is expected — it is the entry point into go-to-market careers.
Postings that mention AI advertise $80,000 against $70,000, a 14% premium that is statistically significant (Mann-Whitney z = 6.71, the strongest signal of any role tested). In a role this large and this junior, AI fluency is still a genuine differentiator.
Sales development is not an integration role
Only 9% of SDR and BDR postings contain integration-pain language, against 68% for Revenue Operations. The pattern is consistent across the pain vocabulary:
| Signal | SDR / BDR | Revenue Operations |
|---|---|---|
| Integration pain | 9% | 68% |
| Reporting burden | 38% | 92% |
| Manual work | 6% | 31% |
| Decision language | 10% | 46% |
| AI language | 28% | 49% |
The systems problem lands on the ops team, not on the reps. What the reps get is the output of that plumbing — and 37% of these roles are advertised as remote, the second-highest share of any ops or GTM class.
How this was measured
These figures come from Inform Growth's 2026 study of 294,483 job postings, collected from public job boards between January 4 and July 26, 2026, with a collection pause in April and May. Role classes are assigned by job title; tool mentions are extracted with a curated dictionary of roughly 120 named SaaS products with aliases. Ambiguous product names such as "Outreach" are counted only when the surrounding text carries tooling context. Text analysis covers the 96,328 postings in target and GTM-adjacent roles with English descriptions of at least 300 characters.
